The massive explosion that shook Beirut on August 4, 2020 destroyed more than 640 of the city’s heritage buildings, leaving behind tons of shattered glass.
Beirut Heritage Initiative wanted to fight to preserve the city’s cultural and architectural identity. But, another donation campaign would have simply gotten lost in the many more urgent causes that needed funds. We had to think of a creative solution.
The answer came in true Lebanese resilient spirit. We launched “Here’s to Beirut” – an initiative that creates and sells drinking glasses made of recycled shattered glass from Beirut’s historic buildings in order to raise funds for restoration efforts.
To date, 8 heritage buildings have been fully or partially restored from the funds raised, and the city’s wonderful heritage continues to be rebuilt one glass at a time.
The campaign won Gold in Creative Strategy at Dubai Lynx 2022.
